Tonight (8 p.m. ET, ABC/ESPN), The 2024 NFL Draft will begin live from downtown Detroit. The first round is scheduled for tonight, the second and third for tomorrow, and the last four for Saturday.

It is generally believed that the Chicago Bears, who traded quarterback Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers during the summer, will select Caleb Williams, the 2022 Heisman champion from USC, as the first overall choice. In his final season, Williams finished with a 30-5 touchdown-interception ratio and a nearly 69% completion rate. Williams passed for more than 10,000 yards in three seasons.

Quarterback Jayden Daniels of LSU, the Heisman winner from the previous season, is predicted to finish second, ahead of Drake Maye of UNC and wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. of Ohio State. Where Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy, who guided the Wolverines to the national championship, ends up is one of the most important concerns. Jim Harbaugh, McCarthy's previous coach, is currently in charge of the Los Angeles Chargers and owns the fifth pick.

The top pick in the draft will get a four-year, $38.5 million deal guaranteed for about $25 million.

Doctors at NYU's Langone Health Center announced yesterday that they had successfully implanted a mechanical heart pump implant and a kidney altered in pigs. The innovative combined operation has the potential to improve access to life-saving care for patients with various chronic conditions who are generally not eligible to receive human organ donation. Currently, more than 100,000 people are waiting for transplants nationwide.

Lisa Pisano, the patient, was 54 years old and had heart failure in addition to kidney illness. Eight days afterward, surgeons surgically inserted the pig kidney, following the "compassionate use" authorization granted by the Food and Drug Administration. This method is only the second successful xenotransplantation of a pig kidney modified with genes into a human body.

The patented organ was created by editing a single pig gene to prevent the pig from producing a sugar that the human immune system normally rejects. It contains tissue from the thymus gland, which regulates the immune system in pigs.

Despite having 170 million active monthly users in the US, the network has drawn criticism for possible national security issues. Following a military event along the border with China in 2020, India banned the app. In China, the platform is technically prohibited (though Douyin, a walled-off counterpart, is still in use). Additionally, TikTok repelled an attempt to outlaw the platform under the Trump presidency.
