Yesterday, House Republicans formally delivered two articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the Senate, ceremoniously crossing the Capitol. The impeachment, which took place in February, accuses Mayorkas of breaching immigration laws through his management of the southern US border, where there was an unprecedented influx of migrants last year. Mayorkas has become the second Cabinet member in US history to face impeachment. The Democratic-majority Senate is likely to dismiss or sideline the charges. The Senate is set to initiate the trial process today, with senators being sworn in as jurors, though the trial's proceedings remain uncertain.

Additionally, in related Capitol Hill developments, Rep. Thomas Massie (R, KY-4) announced his intention to support Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R, GA-14) in her effort to unseat House Speaker Mike Johnson (R, LA-4). Greene had filed a motion to vacate the speakership last month but has yet to call it to a vote. Speaker Johnson has stated he will not step down.

Yesterday, a devastating fire severely damaged Denmark's Borsen, the iconic 400-year-old building in Copenhagen that once served as the stock exchange. Currently home to the Danish Chamber of Commerce, the Borsen was under renovation when the blaze ignited around 8:30 am. The origin of the fire is still undetermined, and fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported.

Positioned close to the parliament building, the Borsen is famed for its distinctive dragon-tailed spire adorned with three crowns, symbolizing Denmark's historical connections with Norway and Sweden. This spire is reputed to protect the building from external threats, including fire. However, the fire's intensity was notably severe around the spire area. The presence of scaffolding and the structure’s copper roof presented significant challenges for the emergency services, necessitating the removal of part of the roof to effectively douse the flames from above. Numerous historical artifacts were successfully salvaged amid the firefighting efforts.

This incident has drawn parallels to the tragic fire at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, which occurred almost five years ago to the day, and which is now nearing the completion of its extensive $900 million restoration.

On Tuesday, the Olympic flame was ignited in a ceremony filled with historical customs at the ancient birthplace of the Games in Greece. This event marks the beginning of a torch relay that will end in Paris on July 26.

The flame was kindled at ancient Olympia, and it will travel over 3,000 miles to reach the French capital this summer. Traditionally, the flame was lit using the sun's energy and was kept burning in a sanctuary in Olympia known as the Prytaneum.
