Yesterday, Humza Yousaf stepped down as Scotland's First Minister, leading the Scottish National Party (SNP) into its second leadership contest in just over a year. Yousaf's resignation followed a failed vote of confidence in the Scottish Parliament, spurred by the collapse of a power-sharing deal with the Scottish Greens. This breakdown was due primarily to the scrapping of a crucial environmental goal: a 75% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030.

Appointed in March 2023 as Nicola Sturgeon's successor, Yousaf's tenure ended without securing a majority in Scotland's devolved regional parliament, where the SNP holds 63 of the 128 seats. His leadership faced challenges, including controversies over Scotland's dependence on North Sea oil and gas, a campaign finance scandal, and divisive policies on rent control and transgender rights.

Yousaf, the first Muslim to lead Scotland, will continue until a new leader is chosen. If the SNP cannot form a majority within 28 days, it could lead to early parliamentary elections.

French actor Gérard Depardieu is set to face trial on charges of sexual assault, according to statements from Paris prosecutors.

Depardieu, aged 75, was called to a police station in Paris on Monday, as reported by broadcaster BFMTV. During this session, he was interrogated regarding accusations made by women who had worked alongside him on movie sets in 2014 and 2021.

After being questioned, Depardieu was released from custody on the same day, with his legal representative affirming his denial of the allegations.

Following this, the Paris prosecution office announced that Depardieu is scheduled to stand trial in October for incidents alleged to have occurred in September 2021. These incidents reportedly took place during the production of the film "Les volets verts" (The Green Shutters) and involved two alleged victims.

"The Paris public prosecutor has confirmed that G. Depardieu, following his release, has been summoned to the criminal court to be tried next October for the sexual assaults claimed to have been committed in 2021," a statement from the prosecutor's office said to the BBC.

The upcoming boxing match on July 20 between Jake Paul, the YouTuber-turned-boxer, and former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has been officially sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations as a professional fight.

Set to unfold over eight two-minute rounds, the clash will see both fighters donning 14-ounce gloves, and the results will officially count towards their professional records.

Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, expressed his satisfaction in a statement to ESPN, noting, "Mike Tyson and Jake Paul both committed to this bout with the intention of it being recognized as a professional, sanctioned fight, one that would definitively impact their records." He added, "Over the last six weeks, MVP and its partners have met the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations requirements to ensure this event is fully sanctioned. We are thankful to have reached this stage."

The fight, which will be hosted at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and streamed via Netflix, has raised concerns about its format due to the significant age difference between the two competitors.
