Yesterday, the United States experienced a variety of extreme weather conditions. In the South, powerful storms and tornadoes caused significant disruptions. The East Coast was battered by intense rains and forceful winds, while the Midwest saw snowfall. The Pacific Northwest faced conditions akin to a blizzard.

Over 25 million individuals from Florida to Virginia were on alert for tornadoes until last night. Winds were forecasted to reach speeds of up to 70 mph in certain areas of North Carolina and Virginia. Since Monday, there have been reports of approximately 10 tornadoes across Texas, Florida, and Alabama, including at least four in Florida alone. Northern Florida declared a state of emergency across 49 counties. The storms have been linked to at least three fatalities.

As the southern storm system progressed northeastward, it resulted in flood warnings in major cities such as Philadelphia, New York City, Boston, and Washington, D.C. The Northeast was expected to receive between 2 to 4 inches of rainfall. Concurrently, a unique storm in Oregon and Washington prompted a rare blizzard warning, with some regions anticipating more than a foot of snow. Additionally, the Plains and Midwest experienced a mixture of winter weather conditions.

NASA has revised its schedule for the manned Artemis missions, which aim to return astronauts to the Moon. Initially set for this year, Artemis II will now embark in September 2025, orbiting the Moon. This will be followed by the lunar landing mission, Artemis III, slated for September 2026. However, the Artemis IV mission, planned for 2028 to transport astronauts to the lunar Gateway space station, remains as scheduled.

These upcoming missions are pivotal in laying the groundwork for sustained scientific study on the Moon and will mark a historic moment by landing both the first woman and the first person of color on the lunar surface. The Artemis missions will utilize NASA's Space Launch System rocket, which, despite experiencing several delays, has been cleared for operation by the agency.

The economic landscape of the 2020s is shaping up to be more challenging compared to the previous decade, characterized by slower economic growth, reduced trade expansion, and higher borrowing expenses.

Highlighting the situation, the World Bank released a statement on Tuesday morning, indicating that the global economic performance has been the most lackluster it's been in over three decades.

The significance of this development cannot be overstated. While the economic outlook is somewhat more optimistic than it was a year ago, thanks to the easing of the global inflation crisis without pushing the world into a recession, the pace of growth is decelerating. This slowdown is compounded by additional risks stemming from geopolitical tensions and the tightening of credit conditions.
